learn something from your students

I learn from my students all the time, of course, but every once in a while they come up with something that you’ve never thought of, or, as happened this week, they come up with something you, for whatever reason, never tried before. Funny thing is, I'd dogmatically (in a lazy fashion) assumed, without realizing that I had, that the student proposed socio-musical scheme would not work. (So I learned about my prejudices, too.)
Would you know it? The scheme worked beautifully….

You can't post an entry like that and then not tell us what the socio-musical scheme was!!! That's just unfair...

Fair point. I will probably talk about this scheme sometime over the next few weeks (probably after the students have their public performance).
I hesitate in giving out details right now, not because the scheme was whizz-bang magical (it was actually relatively simple), but because it doesn’t quite feel like mine to give away right now….
